No. 5 Trey Lance
Lance is our No. 2 QB prospect, 5th overall, and second pick in our mock draft. A lot of boards have Zach Wilson at the 2nd qb spot, but we believe Lance has the larger ceiling, and also most experience out of any of the quarterbacks in the draft running a pro style system. Even though the Carson Wentz time has come to an end in Philly, he has proved that the FCS level, and specifically North Dakota State can produce big time and well prepared qb talent.
If Trey Lance doesn’t go at the #2 spot, we believe he will go to Atlanta at number 4. Matt Ryan still has a few years left, so he could sit behind Ryan, similar to how Rodgers sat behind Farve and turned into a superstar. Or if Atlanta decides that the Ryan era is over, he is more than capable of getting the job done early in his rookie year.
As a former JMU football alum, I watched Trey Lance first hand as a Red Shirt Freshman destroy our highly ranked defense, which featured Washington Football Team cornerback Jimmy Moreland, and an offense led by the Dallas Cowboy’s Ben Dinucci. I hate to give this kid credit for taking another National Championship trophy from our program, but I have to give him props, this kid the truth. I think he’s still a young project that everyone hasn’t had the chance to see being on the FCS level, but i’m excited to see what this kids got.
